Céline Flagship Building CheongdamSeoul2017

This seven-storey, mixed-use building located on a prominent corner of Seoul’s Cheongdam-dong district has a stepping building mass that is unified through a simple envelope of brick, of light-coloured bespoke terracotta. It is laid in a complex bond with different lengths and aperture types. The resulting brick skin resembles a veil, both closed and transparent in places to display a variety of conditions across this animated and tactile facade. The full effect of the perforated brick skin is revealed at night when the building is illuminated.

Internally, Casper Mueller Kneer emplyed large-scale stretch fabric lightboxes for Céline, a signature feature. The floors are laid out using a combination of terrazzo and a marble parquet, first introduced in the Mount Street store in London and now rearranged here, in a pattern of different precious marbles.
