Wellcome Trust Institute of SexologyLondon2014

The exhibition design for the Institute of Sexology at the Wellcome Trust was conceived as a large, single intervention: a system of dark grey walls cases and heavy sound-absorbing curtains alluding to the architecture of archives. The wall cases divided the space into a suite of intimate rooms of various sizes and qualities as well as acting as the main display cabinets. The cases were constructed from through-coloured Valchromat and contained various custom designed interiors developed in close dialoque with the curators of the exhibition. The uniform materiality allowed diverse exhibits to co-exist, creating a consistency within an exhibition that contained over 300 very divers exhibits, from art works to common place objects. Bespoke display furniture encouraged various modes of visitor engagement. A number of site specific art works were installed in close collaboration with the artists.
