Situated in Tokyo’s Ginza district, this flagship building extending over six floors is designed to house the luxury fashion brand Loro Piana, with the store on the first three floors and office on the upper three floors.
The building’s facade is made from vertical ceramic elements, arranged in an irregular pattern to control both natural light and privacy, through veiling the window apertures. This strengthens the duality of senses of exclusivity and openness. The warm earthen colour relates to the brand’s identity and also references the process of making the ceramic pieces – an impression of continuity that extends through exterior and interior spaces.
The lighting scheme redraws the geometry of the facade and further emphasises its tectonics when illuminated at night.
